By air

The nearest airport to Hirosaki is Aomori Airport (AOJ) with connections to Haneda airport, HND, Tokyo, and three direct flights a week from Seoul, South Korea (Incheon Airport; ICN). From Haneda airport, it is a direct, 1 hour flight to Aomori airport, and then a 1 hour bus ride to Hirosaki.

Shuttle buses from Aomori airport to Hirosaki Railway Station are coordinated to leave after every flight arrival. The cost of the bus from Aomori airport to Hirosaki train station is 1,000JPY. This is paid as you leave the bus in exact fare, as the driver does not carry changes. There is no credit or debit card machine on the bus.

International air flights to Japan mainly land in Tokyo (Narita airport, NRT but some flights go to Haneda airport, HND). If landing at Narita, go to the Information Area opposite the exit from Customs clearance, and ask for tickets on the Express (direct) Bus to Haneda airport (HND). They leave frequently, costs about 3,100 JPY, take about 90mins, and it is stress-free. Train and other bus connections from Narita to Haneda airports are more exciting, but not recommended for first time visitors. If given a choice, you should choose incoming frights going to Haneda airport directly.


By train Tokyo to Hirosaki

Although travel by train between Tokyo and Hirosaki is possible, it is not recommended because of the number of necessary transfers and connections in the main Tokyo train station. The Tokyo train station is always very crowded, and stressful for first time foreign visitors: Therefore we encourage participants to first consider the air travel. However, if you choose to go by railway, from Narita or Haneda airports take train or bus to JR (Japan Railway) Tokyo train station; Information area will tell you how and sell you a ticket. At JR Tokyo train station obtain a ticket for the Hayabusa (bullet train) to Shin-Aomori station; seat reservations are mandatory on the Hayabusa train. The Hayabusa takes 3.5 hours from Tokyo train station to Shin-Aomori station. At Shin-Aomori station transfer to a local train to Hirosaki station (30-40 minutes) with about one connection per hour. You can buy all the JR train tickets at Tokyo train station or any other JR stations.
